Cracking Sonalksis Plugins

Hi,

This is a public request to crackers.

You would expect that serious professionals would buy plugins... but actually all too many of them still use cracks so...

Our request is:

If you crack a Sonalksis plugin and release it, please badge it with your team logo on the front fascia.

We'll be very grateful to you if you do this for us.

Dave.

now that's funny. in the good old days crackers used to put their name right on it. I haven't really seen any cracks in a few years, but I say be proud of your work.

its a great idea really. I think the majority of lost sales is in the professional market -- I know of a studio in canada that lavishes in a pro tools system but uses all the cracked plugins it can get its hands on. would be nice if these were clearly id'ed -- but only if education was put out to clients of these studios explaining what is wrong with this. If the client doesnt know either way, they may just think "H20" was the creator of the plugin or program!!!!

so, yes, branding, but also, education is nessecary.

I believe the message Dave is trying to send (please correct if I'm wrong) is not to "shame" anyone as much as identify any Sonalksis plug-in as an official company release and one that is otherwise usable but unofficially released. The logic makes sense. It may be easy for a user to become complacent with a crack version that functions as well as an official version, but if reminded upon each instantiation, may likely coax users that frequent that plug to consider an official purchase. That is a brilliant suggestion, totally reasonable and more than fair. I have no problems being totally honest. I'm not a professional user, just a nobody with a computer that fiddles with audio. I use "cracks" (gasp!). Before you wish me to hell, consider this. That is how I started out with CoOl Edit Pro. When Adobe acquired it, I purchased it because I use it frequently, love it and am happy to be a now loyal follower/supporter. I have limited finances to invest in things I may never really use and this is how I operate. After a user period (defined by me) of finding out if a $250 plug-in is really going to deliver what I'm looking for, I make a decision to buy or try something else. If I'm interested in 7 different $250 EQ's, I'm not buying all those. Within a few months of trials with several, I decide what I want and buy it. There is no lost profit in that. I spend $250, get what I want and supported the developer that satisfied what I was looking for. No one else lost a dime, yet someone got $250 that would not have otherwise. It works that way with all apps. Dave, I commend you on your diplomatic request. I don't know if that is practical to expect it to happen, but I think it's a brilliant message, you didn't insult me as a "user" and most importantly demonstrated a mature display of integrity. Do I promise to buy all your products? To say yes would be insincere, but I admire your down-to-earth, respectful way of dealing with people and I'm certain your plug-ins have much of that mindset built into them. I really think I can believe you when you say you've all put your hearts and souls into making these the best they can possibly be. It's folks like you I'll lean towards first when on the fence when deciding how to spend $250 on a compressor in an offering of 100's at the same price or more. Like many, this is an industry that preys on folks that sink millions a year into plug-ins, all touting to be the best. I can't buy a fraction of them so I decide very carefully amongst them. No malicious harm is intended (from my part) and hopefully some folks will realize that similar "users" are thinking the same way I am and have spent money in the end where they wouldn't have otherwise. I wish Sonalksis the best in their endeavors. You've adopted a new unofficial fan who is looking forward to an opportunity to be adopted as part of your "genuine" family of users.
